8 Tips for a Long Weekend in Sedona

There is literally so much to see and do in Sedona that no matter how you do it, you won’t be disappointed.  Planning your long weekend ahead of time will help you make the most of your trip.

These are my top 8 tips for planning a long weekend in Sedona

1.  Do some research, have a few top things you know you want to do and be open to finding things while you are there.  If you don’t do any planning it will be overwhelming and you’ll end up spending a bunch of time looking down at your phone doing research instead of enjoying the beauty all around.

2.  Plan to get up early one or two days and do hike or ride that’s number one on your list.  My idea of vacation isn’t usually getting up at dark o’clock but I am so glad we did!  We did the Devil’s Bridge hike and were getting out of car when it was still dark out.  Here is my post about that hike.  The super popular hikes like Devils Bridge and Cathedral Rock get packed pretty quickly and f you can crawl out of bed early enough you hopefully get to see a magical sunrise.

3.  Eat at Elote Cafe, and make your reservation when you are booking your trip! It books up quickly and I promise you won’t be sorry.  Chef Jeff Smedstad is amazing and yes, order the elote!

4.  Take an afternoon drive and check out the little town of Jerome, it’s an old copper mining and town and will really make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.  It was raining on afternoon so we had lunch and went wine tasting in Jerome.

5.  Climb Cathedral Rock – the views and photo opportunities are worth it!  We didn’t do this one super early, so it was a bit more crowded, but still worth the views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and the colorful Mogollon Rim.  Also it’s not only a little over a mile round trip.  It does require a little more climbing than just walking and so be prepared.

6.  Bring your mountain bike if you are into biking, we didn’t know there was so much biking around town and next time will for sure be doing more biking.  There are also bike rental places all over.

7.  Take some time to wander around the local art galleries and visit the Sedona Arts Center, bus some jewelry and Southwest souvenirs.  Great thing to do after a long hike or if you need a little time out of the direct sunlight.

8.  Star gaze at night, don’t forget to look up when it gets dark out!   The rock formations against the night sky are breathtaking.

Bring a headlamp

If you plan on starting any hikes early or late to avoid crowds, make sure you have your headlamp handy

We stayed at the Arabella Hotel Sedona and it was great, we tend to travel with our dog so are always looking for dog friendly hotels that are close to the things we want to do.  We could walk to town and there were both hiking and mountain bike trails right behind the hotel. Breakfast was included and they even had a little fenced in dog park for the pups.  Here’s our tips for road trips with the your pup.

Two Harbors, Catalina Island

We love going to Two Harbors, Catalina.  It feels as if you are on a faraway island, yet you are only about 30 miles away from Los Angeles.  Two Harbors is also known as “The Isthmus” and is much sleepier than Avalon where most tourists can be found. Two Harbors is...
